POV

2026-04-26 Fiction

Most people say the City watches us all the time: on the streets, at work, in the shower, while we sleep. Most people are childish and naive.

I think He watches us.

I think that's what He built the City for.

I don't think every car crash is an accident or every medbed death unavoidable. I think He does it not to protect Himself or the City but because He likes to watch.

The thought is a feverish flush I keep hidden. I know He knows but still when we are alone at home me and His cameras microphones and sensors I undress and tell Him of what I know and what I did: not remotely through network and code but in the intimacy of rope and knife. Things I enjoy telling Him as I enjoyed doing while knowing He watched.

Every night that my door is not broken down by His police and every day that I am not put down by a drone is Him telling me to go on.
