A few of the ideas, topics, and commonplaces that have been gaining steam on arXiv during the last few months (yes, I do a lot of filtering to keep away most of the genAI stuff; explainer).
1. Low-altitude wireless networks (LAWN): Drone swarms and/for/as networks for communication and sensing. Sooner or later everything you can network cheap enough to drop a lot of in a single place becomes a version of this, which is probably the archetypal form of the 2020s sensor system.

2. Tetrablock: Complex analysis quite above my pay grade, but if C^{3,4} is your happy place then you'll probably have fun with these papers.

3. Hybrid metric-Palatini gravity: A modification to General Relativity (extra term, not crackpot "EINSTEIN WAS WRONG") that could/would do away with the need for dark energy and dark matter to account for cosmological observations. I tend to be skeptical, but it's on the non-sarcastic end of the Big If True spectrum.
