The Smile of a Child

2015-12-27

There are very specific signs that a child is being watched by judgmental, potentially violent adults. Hour after hour, their faces move with the precise control of somebody defusing a bomb, and for the same reasons. They never do the unexpected. They are always afraid of it. They assume they are always being watched. They have to.

They always say they are happy.

Perhaps it's the professional bias of a child psychologist, but I'm no longer comfortable watching the faces of the people in the street. They always look so precisely content when the drones fly by.
